Eugene E. Overton, 69 Retired Police Officer Dies Sunday

OCTOBER 19 – Eugene Edward Overton, Sr., 69, died Sunday, October 17, 2004, surrounded and comforted by the love of his immediate and extended family. He was known from early childhood as “Baldy”, a nickname given him by his older brothers because of his white-blonde hair.

Law enforcement was his life and he served 42 years with the Farmville Police Department, retiring In 1999 as a Sergeant.

He was born August 4, 1935, in Rice, Prince Edward County, the son of James Watson Over-ton, Sr. and Grace Thompson Overton. He was predeceased by a daughter, Barbara Jean Overton, two brothers, Floyd M. Myers, killed at the Battles of the Bulge in World War II, and James Watson Overton, Jr.

He is survived by his wife, Carolyn Hudgins Overton; two daughters, Rhonda Overton Fox and her husband, Steve of Chesterfield and Cindi Overton Atkins and her husband, Robin of Farmville; a son. Trooper Eugene E. Overton, Jr. and his wife, Wendy of Leesburg; four granddaughters, Barbara Jean Soles and her husband, Steve, Stephanie Fox, Ashley Atkins and Morgan Atkins; two grandsons, Eugene E. Overton, III and James Overton; four brothers, Otto S. Overton and Campbell L. Overton both of Farmville, W. Quinton Overton of Rocky Mount and Wyatt Lee Overton of Farmville; two sisters, Breetie Overton Jenklns and Grace Overton Tuttle both of Farmville. His extended family consists of four sisters-in-law; three brothers-in-law and numerous nieces and nephews.

Family visitation will be held this evening (Tuesday) from 7 to 9 p.m. at Doyne-Burger-Davis Funeral Home, Farmville.

Graveside services will be held Wednesday at 2 p.m. In Westvlew Cemetery, Farmville.
