Edith Steger, 87 Buckingham Resident Dies Tuesday, July 7

BUCKINGHAM, July 9 – Edith Harris Webb Steger, 87, of Buckingham Court House, passed away Tuesday, July 7, 2009. She was the wife of the late Frank Edmond Webb and the late Thomas Joseph Steger.
She is survived by three daughters, Mary (Mimi) Webb Stout and husband, Teddy of Lorton, Margaret Webb Thomas and husband, Luther of Buckingham, and Frances Webb Ford and husband, Kent of Forest; stepdaughter, Joanne Steger Songer and husband, Ed of Scottsville; stepson, Thomas Joseph Steger Jr. and wife, Liz of Scottsville; eight grandchildren, Katie Thomas Shrock, Emily Thomas Smith, Frank Edward Ford, Lyndsey Edmond Ford, Tracie Steger Skipper, Wendy Leigh Oliver, Jennifer Steger Farrish, and T.J. Steger III; seven great-grandchildren; older sisters, Eleanor Harris McRae and husband, Neil of Virginia Beach, and Louise Harris Wilck of Farmville; and four special nephews.
She was born in the Five Forks area of Prince Edward County, the youngest of four daughters of the late Marshall and Mary Harris. After the death of her first husband, she owned and operated the Frank E. Webb Insurance Agency in Dillwyn for 14 years. She served as treasurer of the Buckingham County Volunteer Rescue Squad during the initial formation years of the squad, and served as the treasurer of Historic Buckingham for many years. Edith was an active member and elder in Maysville Presbyterian Church. She was devoted to her children and grandchildren and they loved their “Nonnie.”
Family will receive friends on Thursday (today) from 7-9 p.m. at Dunkum Funeral Home.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday at Maysville Presbyterian Church with interment in the Buckingham Community Cemetery.
