MAY 6 – Edith Drew “Edie” Smith, 71, of Farmville, died Thursday, May 1, 2008 in Richmond. She was the wife of Frederick A. Smith.

Born May 3, 1936 in Erwin, TN, Mrs. Smith was the daughter of the late Fred R. and Clara Harden English. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and had previously worked at Craddock-Terry Shoe Corporation.

In addition to her husband, Edie is survived by four children, Ronald E. Drew and wife, Wanda of Crewe, Constance M. Coleman of Appomattox, Brenda C. Flowers and husband, Calvin of Farmville, and Dawn M. Peebles of Keysville; three step-children, Jeanice Maxson and husband, Mike, Wayne Smith and wife, Holly and Renee Karli all of New Jersey; 10 grandchildren, Kris Drew, Jessica Drew, Joey Coleman, Jeremy Coleman, Will Coleman, Somer Flowers, Shaun Abernathy, Paul Flowers, Caitlyn Baker and Megan Garrett; five step-grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren, and three sisters, Jean Franklin and Betty Neely of Powhatan and Dale Palace of Northridge, CA.

Funeral services were conducted Monday at Shorter Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Robert Stream officiating. Interment followed in Trinity Memorial Gardens.
