Donna Kirk, 64

JANUARY 23 – Donna Kirk, 64, of Farmville passed away Tuesday, January 6, 2009 in Richmond after a long illness. She was born June 22, 1944 in Huntington Park, California and raised in Iowa. She was the daughter of Wesley Dorn and Marjorie Collister.

Mrs. Kirk graduated from Jessup High School in Jessup, Iowa. She then graduated in Nursing from Allen Memorial Hospital, Waterloo, Iowa in 1966. She married John Kirk in 1967. She practiced nursing until 1998, volunteered for Madeline's House and Prince Edward Elementary School both in Farmville. She played the piano for a Baptist church while her and her husband served at an Indian Hospital near the Grand Canyon and also took a very active part in dog and cat rescue while they lived in Tuba City, Arizona.

She is survived by her husband, John; daughters, Amy Cantor of Sparks, MD and Suzanne Schellman of Winchester; a granddaughter, Naomi Cantor; two grandsons, Aiden and Ryan Schellman; her mother, Marjorie Dorn of Independence, Iowa; aunt, Dorothy Dell Richmond of 29 Palms, California; uncle, Laurence Collister of Garden Grove, California; sisters, Valarie Smith of Beacon, Iowa, and Georgine Dodd of Kalamazoo, Michigan and a brother, David Dorn of Urbana, Iowa.

A memorial service will be held Saturday, January 24, at 11 a.m. at Heritage Baptist Church in Farmville.

Memorial contributions may be made to Operation Smile, UNICEF or the Christian Children's Fund.

Puckett Funeral Home, Farmville, is in charge of arrangements.
