David “Lee” Carter, 55 Logging Firm President Dies Wednesday

DILLWYN, October 16 – David “Lee” Carter, 55, died Wednesday, October 15, 2008. He was born June 5, 1953, in Charlottesville.

Mr. Carter was the son of Hallie Cunningham Carter and the late Clifford A. Carter. He leaves behind his wife of 28 years, Tracy Lyle Carter; a daughter, Samantha Leigh Carter; a son, David “Cliff” Carter; and a special niece, Kelly Haney.

He is also survived by his father and mother-in-law, Willis and Katherine Lyle of Glad-stone; four brothers, James Carter and wife, Brenda, Paul Carter and wife, Cindy, Frank Carter and Michael Carter; three sisters, Cindy Fagen and husband, Tom, Betty Lou Peterson and husband, Charlie, and Pat Robertson and husband, Wilson.

Also surviving are five sisters-in-law, Peggy McCoy, Nancy Kershmer and husband, Billy, Michelle Kitchen and husband, Earl, Amy Benson and husband, Jeff, and Lori Gabriel and husband, Leonard. He leaves behind a number of nieces and nephews, and special friends, Roger Wright, Jerry Wright, Jimmy Blanks, Otis Wiley, Bill Parr, and Garland Meadows.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Clifford A. Carter, and a special nephew, Sebron Earl Kitchen, “Sebe”, and Jonathan Carter.

Mr. Carter was president of Carter Logging Inc. and a member of St. James United Methodist Church. He attended Mulberry Grove Baptist Church.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m. at Mulberry Grove Baptist Church, with interment in the Antioch Baptist Church.

The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Dunkum Funeral Home in Dillwyn.
