JUNE 30 – Col. Ret. Gary Dean Lentz, M.D., 69, of Farmville passed away Sunday morning, June 28, 2009 at his residence. He was born May 20, 1940 in the Philippines, the son of the late Col. Ret. Emmert Carl Lentz, M.D. and Anna Lorraine Ley Lentz.

He graduated from the Air Force Academy in 1962 and was a graduate of The Ohio State University College of Medicine.

He served in the United States Air Force for 25 years. He then opened his private practice in Farmville where he worked for 12 years.

Dr. Lentz was an avid golfer and enjoyed animals and the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his wife, Eleanor O. Lentz, his brother, Dana Carl Lentz and his grandson, Kevin Michael King.

He is survived by his sons, John Sevier King of Smithfield, Frank Scott King and wife, Rose of Zebulon, NC and Brian Richard King and wife, Susan of Chester; a daughter, Carla Ann Lentz of Richmond; grandchildren, Christopher Ryan King, Alexis Nicole King, Kaitlin Brooke King, Keegan Hunter Jones and Elle Anneliese Miller; and a sister, Barbara Ann Gresham of Zionsville, IN.

A celebration of his life will be held Thursday, July 2, from 6-8 p.m. at Puckett Funeral Home.
