Charles Hooper, III, 68

CREWE, May 20 – Charles Stringfellow Hooper III, 68, of Crewe, departed this life on Friday, May 16, 2008. He was the son of the late Charles S. Hooper Jr. and the late Ann Sheffield Hooper of Crewe.

He is survived by his step-mother, Frances R. Hooper of Crewe; sister, Mary Liz Carter and husband, Paul of Black-stone; brother, William H. Hooper of Martinsville; nieces, Melissa Allen and husband, Joseph, Jeanne Hooper, and Elizabeth Hooper, and great-niece, Hannah Elliott; as well as a number of uncles, aunts, and cousins.

Mr. Hooper was born on January 28, 1940. He served in the U.S. Army and was a member of the White House Honor Guard during the Kennedy Ad-ministration. He graduated from Longwood College with degrees in earth science and biology. Mr. Hooper pursued a variety of interests including herpetology, mineralogy, jewelry making, and hosta and daylily cultivation.

He was a member of the Crewe United Methodist Church, the Friends of the Crewe Library, and the Richmond Area Daylily Society.

Funeral services were conducted at Crewe United Methodist Church on Monday, May 19, with interment in the Crewe Cemetery.

The family requests that contributions be made to the Crewe United Methodist Church, the Crewe Volunteer Fire Department, or the Nottoway County Emergency Squad.
