OCTOBER 20 – Carroll Gillispie Sr., 89, of Farmville and formerly of Buckingham, died Tuesday, October 14, 2009. He was born August 16, 1920 in Iowa, the son of the late Emmett Douglas Gillespie and Effie Word Gillispie.

He is survived by his wife, Ann Smith Gillispie; five children, Carolyn Ann G. Grovac of Tampa, FL, Carroll Gillispie Jr. of Farmville, Emmett Davidson Gillispie, II of Accomack County, Marilyn G. Hanes of Charlotte, NC, and Martha Jo Gillispie of Farmville; eight grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son.

Funeral services were held Saturday at Enon Baptist Church with interment in the church cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to Enon Baptist Church, American Cancer Society, or the Special Olympics.

Dunkum Funeral Home, Dillwyn, was in charge of arrangements.
