Camm “Max” Patterson, 79 Buckingham Co. Native Dies March 29

ALTAVISTA, April 1 – Camm “Max” Patterson, 79, of Altavista, died Saturday, March 29, 2008 in Lynchburg General Hospital.

He was born in Buckingham County September 24, 1928, the son of the late Camm Page Patterson and Myrtis Estelle Skinner Patterson and the widower of Katherine “Kitty” Chick Patterson. He joined the Merchant Marines in 1945 and later became a Staff Sergeant in the United States Marine Corps serving from 1948 to 1952.

He was a member of Lane Memorial United Methodist Church, and formerly a member of the Altavista Jaycees and Altavista Lions Club and a longtime member of Altavista Country Club. He also served for 32 years with the Campbell County Industrial Development Authority and manned the polls in Altavista for many election years. He retired from Vaughan Tire and Appliance Store where he was a store manager in Altavista, Lynchburg and Charlottesville.

Mr. Patterson is survived by a daughter, Sharon Patterson Wright and husband, Jim of Louisa; son, Stephen Paige Patterson of Altavista; sister, Annie Patterson Campbell of Farmville; two granddaughters, Susan Allen Wright and Sarah Katherine Wright both of Louisa; two sisters-in-law, Lou Shaver and Nell Vaughan Taylor both of Lynchburg; several nieces and nephews, Benny Carter, Bobby Vaughan, Brenda Benenati, Nita Bollinger, Carol Miller, and Kenneth Campbell; and many great-nieces and great-nephews.

He was preceded in death by his grandson, Shannon Wright; brother, Hazel Cornell Patterson; sister-in-law, Rae Chick Carter; two brothers-in-law, Danny Shaver and J.B. Carter Sr., and a nephew, Michael Shaver.

A graveside service was held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, April 1, at the Prospect United Methodist Church Cemetery with Dr. Rev. David P. Cole of Louisa Baptist Church officiating.
