Betty L. Newton, 93
SCOTTSVILLE, Aug. 17 – Betty Louise “Aunt Lou” Shumaker Newton, 93, of Scottsville, died Monday, August 16, 2010 at her residence. She was born August 29, 1916 in Buckingham County, a daughter of the late John Andrew and Lizzie (Jamerson) Shumaker.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved husband, John Ancell Newton; three brothers, Richard, Walter and John; and two sisters, Rosa and Anna Mae.
Mrs. Newton was a member of Scottsville Baptist Church and was retired from Uniroyal-Goodrich. She loved animals, flowers, gardening, canning and greatly enjoyed cooking and entertaining. She was a hardworking and generous person who was known and loved by all.
Survivors include a number of cousins, nieces and nephews, and her caregivers, Alicia Johnson, Linda Napier, and Rene Steele.
A funeral service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Thursday, August 19, at Thacker Brothers Funeral Home in Scottsville by the Rev. James C. Jetton.
The viewing will be from 9 a.m. until 5 p.m. Wednesday, August 18, and one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.
