Annie Mae Dean, 88

OCTOBER 28 – Annie Mae Dean, 88, formerly of Cambridge and Woolford, Maryland, died Friday, October 24, 2008 in Farmville, where she had lived since March 7, 1998.

She was born on April 5, 1920 in Eastville, the daughter of the late Claude C. Doughty Sr., and Yula Gregory Doughty Owens.

Mrs. Dean attended schools in Virginia, graduating in 1937 from Cheritin High School. She entered the Cambridge, Maryland School of Nursing in 1938, graduating in 1941 and became a registered nurse. She worked as a private nurse, retiring in 1973 due to health problems. On March 3, 1941, she married William L. Dean Jr. He died on August 23, 1993. She was also preceded in death by several brothers and a sister.

As a young woman, Mrs. Dean was active in Zion United Methodist Church of Cambridge, MD, and also the Crescent Class.

Mrs. Dean is survived by a daughter, Cindy D. Prabl and husband, Wilmer of Beaufort, SC; a son, William L. Dean III and wife, Tina of Lynchburg; two grandsons, William L. Dean IV of Richmond, and Todd M. Dean of Williamsburg; a great-grandson and three great-granddaughters; a brother and several nieces and nephews.

A memorial service and interment will be conducted at a later date.
