CUMBERLAND, Sept. 23 – Mrs. Amelia Asal Gillespie, 90 of Cumberland, died Sunday, September 21, 2008 at her home. She was the widow of Robert J. Gillespie.

She is survived by her sisters, Elizabeth A. Newman and Louise A. Bethel both of Cumberland; two nieces, Jean N. Ownby of Cumberland and Geraldine F. Lane of Chesterfield; seven nephews, Walter Fahrner of Cumberland, Delbert Fahrner of Texas, William Newman of Farmville, Jacob Newman, Douglas Ranson, George C. Meinhard and Claude B. Meinhard all of Cumberland, and her devoted care giver, Janet Martin.

The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Shorter Funeral Home, where funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday in the Chapel. Interment will follow in the Tar Wallet Baptist Church Cemetery Cumberland.

The family suggests that memorial contributions be made to the Tar Wallet Baptist Church Cemetery Fund, Tar Wallet Road Cumberland, VA 23040.
