Services To Be Held Friday In Dillwyn For Bobby S. Shumaker

DILLWYN, May 20 – Bobby Shirley Shumaker, born June 24, 1937 in Buckingham County, died Tuesday, May 18, 2010. He was the son of Minnie and Percy (Mack) Shumaker, and was preceded in death by a sister, Lucy Ann Allen.

After completing service in the Navy, he spent 30 years in Ohio where he ran a plumbing business. He returned to Buckingham in 1995 and was an avid hunter and fisherman all his life.

He is survived by his wife, Faye Wyland Shumaker; two step-daughters, Leigh Anne Davis Taylor and husband, Dennis and Scotty Davis Edwards and husband, Mike; three step-grandsons, Chris Taylor, Russell Taylor and John Edwards, all of Buckingham; a sister, Betty Irving Martz of Chester; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins; and two devoted friends, Mark Suppes and Dan Arnold both of Creston, OH.

Even though his health was declining, he undertook the huge task of cleaning the Dillwyn Town Cemetery and u-grading the entrances. He held a strong devotion to this cemetery because of his parents and many other family members and friends interred there. With this in mind, the family would like to request that donations in Bobby's memory be made to the Dillwyn Town Cemetery Fund, PO Box, Dillwyn, VA 23936, or Buckingham Volunteer Rescue Squad, PO Box 444, Dillwyn, VA 23936.

Visitation will be held (tonight) Thursday, May 20, from 7 until 9 p.m. at Dillwyn First Baptist Church with a memorial service to be held on Friday, May 21, at 1 p.m., also at Dillwyn First Baptist Church.
