Mary Hannah Jones, 90 Sheppards Native Dies Tuesday

OCTOBER 23 – Mary Hannah Jones, 90, of Richmond, formerly of Sheppards, died Tuesday, October 21,2003.

She was born in 1913, a daughter of the late Joseph L. and Edna Venable Eican Jones. She was preceded in death by a sister, Pauline Jones Walker and a brother, Marcus Cleveland Jones.

Miss Jones was graduated from Longwood College and received her Master's Degree in Education from Virginia Polytechnic in Blacksburg. After retiring as professor of Home Economics at Radford College, she returned to her home at Sheppards, where she lived until she moved to the Hermitage Retirement Home in Richmond.

She spent her working career first at Mary Washington College in Fredericksburg and later at Radford College. While at Mary Washington, the State Board of Education, in recognition of her work made her an Honorary Member of the Virginia Future Homemakers.

She is survived by a brother, Joseph L. Jones, Jr. and his wife, Jeanne J. of Willow Street, PA and nephews and nieces, Mary Venable Walker Volk, Ann Noel Walker, Marcus Cleveland Jones, Jr., Jane Elizabeth Jones French, Joseph L. Jones, IV, Carolyn Jones Borris and Catherine Ann Jones Mercer.

Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Friday at Smyrna United Methodist Church, Sheppards, with interment in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 9:45 a.m. to the hours of the service at the church.

Memorial contributions may be made to Smyrna United Methodist Church.
