During the August meeting of the Cumberland County School Board, officials recognized Charlie Whalen as their featured guest for “Meet the Community.” Whalen, the new park manger at Bear Creek Lake State Park, spent four years in the U.S. Air Force working as a security police officer in Cheyenne, W.Y. In 2008, Whalen was named chief ranger at James River State Park.
