TRIVIA — Three Roads Brewing, located at 312 W. Third Street in Farmville, will host trivia on Thursday, May 2, beginning at 7 p.m.
MAY 4
PLANT SALE – The Heart of Virginia Master Gardeners will hold their annual plant sale on Saturday, May 4, running from 8 a.m. to noon. This will take place in the parking lot of the Prince Edward Extension Office, located at 100 Dominon Drive in Farmville. Members will have perennials, native plants, shrubs and trees for sale, as well as some vegetable and herb bedding plants. For information, call 434-392-4246.
WOMEN’S PRAYER BREAKFAST – Mt. Zion will hold a Women’s Prayer Breakfast on Saturday, May 4, running from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. The church is located at 3516 Green Bay Road.
WILDFLOWER SYMPOSIUM – The 2024 Wildflower Symposium, presented by Virginia Master Naturalists, will be held on Saturday, May 4, running from 9 a.m. to noon. That will take place at the Bear Creek Hall at Bear Creek Lake State Park. Cynthia Wood will give a presentation, followed by a guided wildflower walk. CHURCH CONCERT – Full Life Fellowship Ministries will hold its 5th anniversary concert on Saturday, May 4, beginning at 2:30 p.m. There will be performances by the Full Life Chorus, Baptist Union Baptist Church, Dillwyn Holy Temple and New Flame Church of God in Christ. The event will be at the Buckingham County Community Center, located at 16268 North James Madison Highway in Dillwyn.
DERBY DAY – On Saturday, May 4, Sandy River Distillery will hold Derby Day in honor of the Kentucky Derby, with Southern & Wild creating a hat bar, designing derby hats for everyone. There will also be live music with Tuggle & Scruggs starting at 5 p.m.

WOMEN’S DAY – Jericho Baptist Church will hold Women’s Day on Sunday, May 5, during the 11 a.m. service. The guest preacher will be Minister Vernetta Bolden from Oak Grove Baptist Church.
CHURCH ANNIVERSARY – Full Life Fellowship will celebrate its fifth church anniversary with a worship service at 11 a.m. The theme is “Chosen and Called”, taken from 1 Peter 2:9. Apostle Patricia Davidson will deliver the message.
SIP N’ SHOP MARKET – Sandy River Distillery will host a Sip N’ Shop Market on Sunday, May 5, running from noon to 4 p.m. There will be an estimated 25 to 30 vendors on hand, with live music from Gabe Cash.

CURDSVILLE MEETING – The Curdsville Community Center will host a potluck dinner on Monday, May 6, beginning at 6 p.m. This will be followed by a presentation by Siller Pollinator Company, experts in honey bee pollination. You can learn how to play a role in supporting pollinators and helping the environment.
MAY 7
BEEKEEPERS MEETING – The Heart of Virginia Beekeepers will meet Tuesday, May 7 at 7 p.m. at the Prince Edward County Extension Office. That’s located at 100 Dominion Drive in Farmville. Gardener and beekeeper Robin Simoni will talk about planing for honeybees. Anyone who has bees or is interested in bees is welcome. PRE-MOTHER’S DAY PROGRAM – High Bridge Baptist Church will hold a ‘Pre-Mother’s Day’ program on Saturday, May 11, beginning at 3 p.m. The event will recognize all the women chosen as “Mother of the Church”, with each woman asked to wear something in the color of the rainbow.
FIRE DEPARTMENT FUNDRAISER – The Cumberland Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary will host a chicken BBQ on Saturday, May 11, beginning at noon. The event will be held at the firehouse on Route 13 in Cumberland. Chicken halves and dinners will be ready at $9 per half or $13 per dinner, which includes a chicken half, green beans, a roll, dessert and drink. Pre-orders can be placed on the fire department auxiliary’s Facebook page or by texting 804-241-3526. All proceeds will go to benefit the fire department.

CONSECRATION CEREMONY – The Deaconess Consecration Ceremony for Sister Daisey Watson will be on Sunday, May 12 during the 11 a.m. worship service. That’ll be at New Store Baptist Church, located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville.
MOTHER’S DAY SERVICE – First Rock Baptist Church of Prospect will hold a program to honor women and mothers on Sunday, May 12, beginning at 2 p.m. Words of encouragement will be given by Minister Katie Kelso from the Bethel Grove Baptist Church in Rice. The music ministry will be provided by Brocher Tucker and Brother Eddie Chastin.

BIBLE STUDY – New Store Baptist Church, located at 9637 Francisco Road in Farmville, will hold a six-week Bible Study labeled “Learning From the Parables of Jesus”. The class will meet each Thursday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m., beginning on May 16. Each Thursday, the class will study one of the parables Jesus taught and seek to understand what He was trying to teach.

CLOTHES GIVEAWAY – The Church of Christ, located at 1405 North Main Street in Farmville, will hold a clothing giveaway and pancake breakfast on Saturday, May 18 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
SPRING FISH FRY – The Ladies Royalty of Farmville will present a Spring Fish Fry on Saturday, May 18, beginning at 11 a.m. It will be held at the Masonic Lodge, located at 415 Griffin Boulevard in Farmville, with a menu including fish, fries and a drink for $10. TURTLE DAY – The Friends of Twin Lakes State Park will host a celebration of turtles on Saturday, May 18, running from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. The event will feature live turtles from Central Virginia Reptile Rescue and Ranger Myrtle, an animal ambassador for the park. There will be turtle-themed games, turtle face painting and a selfie station with wearable turtle shells.

NAACP MEETING – The Prince Edward branch of the NAACP will meet at the Robert Russa Moton Museum on Monday, May 20 at 6 p.m. The focus of the meeting will be public safety, with speakers including Prince Edward Sheriff Tony Epps, Farmville Police Chief Andy Ellington, Longwood Police Chief Angela Comer and Hampden-Sydney Police Chief Mark Fowler. A question and answer period will be included.

The Guinea service is at 10 a.m. at the church, located at 1176 Guinea Road in Farmville. The Cumberland service is held at 1835 Cumberland Road in Farmville, beginning every Sunday at 11:15 a.m.

HOMESCHOOL SUPPORT GROUP – Maysville Baptist Church, located at 13327 W. James Anderson Highway in Buckingham Courthouse, hosts a Homeschool Support Group the first Thursday of each month from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. The purpose of this group is to provide support and connection for homeschooling families in the area. ALZHEIMER’S CAREGIVER SUPPORT – An Alzheimer’s Association Caregiver Support Group will meet on the first Wednesday of each month at St. John’s Lutheran Church, located at 1301 Milnwood Avenue in Farmville. SOUP FOR THE SOUL – Cumberland Presbyterian Church will hold “Soup for the Soul” the third Tuesday of every month, beginning at 10 a.m. Church members prepare soup to be taken out to those who need a visit. GRIEF SUPPORT GROUP — Farmville United Methodist Church (FUMC) is offering a Grief Support Group for those who have suffered recent losses or losses long ago. This is an ecumenical group welcoming anyone who has experienced a loss. FOOD DISTRIBUTION — Delma’s Pantry in Cumberland County will have curbside food distribution at Delma’s Pantry the second, third and fourth Fridays of the month at 9:30 a.m. each Friday. Senior boxes will be given out at the distributions.
VETERANS SERVICES — The American Legion Accredited Veterans Service Officers are available to see veterans and their family members at the Farmville VFW from 8:30 a.m. – 1 p.m. on the second and fourth Tuesdays. Veteran Service Officers may be reached at (434) 414-6504.
