The Service for Veterans committee of the Judith Randolph-Longwood Chapter (JR-L), Daughters of the American Revolution, started a project in January 2022 to make lap blankets for veterans. It was the dream of the committee to collect 100 blankets to be used as Christmas gifts for the Veterans at McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond and for Veterans in the Farmville community. Because of the generosity of chapter members, friends and local crocheting/knitting groups, the dream became reality when the final blanket count showed they had received 171 blankets.
The project was headed by the Service for Veterans Committee Chair, Marjo Mullins, who was assisted by her committee members, Jenny Bobko, Donna Ennis and Anne Wilkins.
Of the 171 blankets received, 150 were delivered to McGuire Veterans Hospital in Richmond; seven were delivered to Trinity Mission Health and Rehab, and thirteen were delivered to Brookview Lodge and Holly Manor, all in Farmville.
The DAR Service for Veterans Committee serves America’s veterans. The committee provides a tangible way for DAR members to say “thank you” by acknowledging and recognizing veterans’ service, sacrifice, and commitment to the preservation of our nation’s freedom.
