Wednesday, April 13 is your chance to show support for those who put themselves at risk to keep us moving. April 11-15 is National Work Zone Awareness Week and April 13 is Go Orange Day. Everyone is encouraged to wear orange and commit themselves to slowing down and paying attention in work zones.
Last year in Virginia, work zone crashes increased 41% over 2020 and fatalities in work zones increased 155%. Nationwide, work zone fatalities increased 43% in the 20-10s, from 586 in 2010 to 842 in 2019. Despite the increase, these injuries and deaths are avoidable. Help spread the word to put safety first in work zones.
The goal is simple but important – fewer crashes, fewer injuries and fewer deaths in work zones. With your assistance, we can get there.
