Lady Eagles 2A Regional Runner Up

On Feb. 16 the Eagle track team traveled to The Boo Williams Sports Complex in Hampton to compete in the Region 2A indoor track meet. There were twelve schools represented. The lady Eagles finished in second place as a team.

Leading the way for the Eagles was Junior, Saye Woodard. She won the long jump with a jump of 15’3 and the triple jump with a jump of 31’ 7 .. She also finished third in the shot and fourth in the high jump. She has qualified to the state meet in all four events.

Aaliyah Bell, a senior, won the regional shot competition with a put of 31’1.

Also qualifying to the state meet was Sylvia Hemmer, a sophomore, with a third place finish in the 1600 and a personal record of 5:51.78. She also qualified in the 3200 finishing second with a time of 13:31.34.

Sophomore Dejanira Pearl qualified to the state meet by finishing second in the triple jump with a jump of 29’ ..

Also placing sixth in the 1,000 was junior Laila Jones with a time of 3:56.48.

Freshman Kamani Watkins was fourth in the triple jump and fifth in the high jump and long jump.

Freshman Aliyah Toney was sixth in the triple jump and seventh in the long jump.

The four by 200 relay team of Shakeyah Williams, Shamaila Johnson, Kamani Watkins, and Makayla Nelson finished fifth.

The four by 400 relay team of Laila Jones, Dejanira Pearl, Makayla Nelson, and Saye Woodard placed fourth.

The boy’s track team finished sixth out of twelve teams.

Sophomore Jamarion Crawley was fourth in the 55 meters with a time of 6.92 and the 300 with a time of 38.59. Those times qualified him to participate in the state meet.

Senior Alex Wright placed fifth in the 500 meters. Senior Alex Douglas was sixth in the 500.

Junior Jeremiah Bates was eighth. Jeremiah also was fifth in the long jump but had previously qualified to the state meet. He also was fourth in the triple jump.

The four by 400 relay team of Nathan Hamilton, Jeremiah Bates, Alex Douglas, and Alex Wright placed second, earning them a chance to participate in the state track meet.

The State track meet will take place March 2 – 3 at Liberty University in Lynchburg.
