As a result of the Democratic Party of Virginia’s recent 5th Congressional District Convention, Farmville native, Taikein Cooper has been named as one of four national delegates to serve the presumptive Democratic Nominee for President, Joe Biden.

Cooper’s political career began nearly 21 years ago when as an 11-year-old, Cooper canvassed the community in the 1999 election for sheriff of Prince Edward County.

“I believe that Prince Edward County has consistently been the epicenter of American progress,” Cooper said. “From Israel on the Appomattox to Brown vs The Board of Education, Prince Edwardians have consistently helped move America forward. I’m thankful for the opportunity to continue that legacy as a National Delegate at the 2020 Democratic National Convention.”

Cooper is the first Democratic National Delegate from Prince Edward since 2008 when the late Lacy B. Ward served as a National Delegate in Denver for Senator Barack Obama.

The 2020 Convention is scheduled for August 17-20 in Milwaukee, but could potentially be held virtually because of the pandemic.
