Clark, Cobbs appointed by Gov. Northam

Gov. Ralph Northam announced Friday April 24 the appointment of Prince Edward County Commonwealth’s Attorney Megan Clark to the State Child Fatality Review Team.

Megan Clark

The State Child Fatality Review Team is created through Virginia Code Section 32.1-283.1 and reviews certain child deaths in order to develop and revise as necessary operating procedures for the review of child deaths, recommend components for prevention and education programs,  improve the identification, data collection, and record keeping of the causes of child deaths and recommend training to improve the investigation of child deaths.

Clark who is serving her second term as commonwealth’s attorney for the county said, “I am beyond excited to be selected for this team. As I have stated many times, prosecuting crimes against children is one of my passions.”

Joan Johns Cobbs

Clark said children are a part of our most vulnerable populations and being able to do research and study factors leading to child deaths is both interesting and necessary.

In addition to Clark, Gov. Northam reappointed Joan Johns Cobbs of Farmville to the Brown v. Board of Education Scholarship Awards Committee.

Cobbs, who is retired from the United States Department of Justice, is the sister of Barbara Johns, who led a student body strike against segregation that led to Virginia’s Davis v. County School Board of Prince Edward County, one of five court cases that was ultimately consolidated into Brown v. Board of Education.
