Biden wins big in Prince Edward, Buckingham and Cumberland counties

Election results from Prince Edward, Buckingham and Cumberland counties from Tuesday’s Democratic Presidential Primary voting followed the same trend as Virginia with former Vice President Joe Biden receiving more than 60% of the vote in each county.

In Prince Edward County, Biden’s 1,453 votes handily defeated Bernie Sanders, who finished second with 350 votes, 15.3%. Elizabeth Warren was third with 230 votes, 10%. Michael Bloomberg, who spent $18 million is advertising money in Virginia alone, finished fourth in Prince Edward County with 189 votes, 8%.

Bloomberg ended his candidacy Wednesday morning after a disappointing Super Tuesday showing.

The results were much the same in Buckingham County with Biden garnering 945 votes, 63%. Sanders was second with 284 votes, 19%. Bloomberg finished third with 130 votes, 9%.

Cumberland County gave Biden the biggest win of the three counties with 69% of the votes. Biden’s 696 votes in Cumberland far outdistanced the 164 votes for Sanders, 16.24%. Bloomberg’s 62 votes, 6% narrowly edged out Warren for third. Warren had 57 votes, 16%.

The state-wide results gave Biden a large victory with 53% of the vote. Sanders was second with 23%. Warren was third with 10.8% and Bloomberg was fourth with 9.7% of the vote.

Turnout in Prince Edward County was described as slow Tuesday afternoon. The final results showed a turnout of 17.5% for the primary.
