Cumberland County High School’s young varsity girls and boys teams did well capping off their 2019-20 indoor track and field seasons over the weekend at the Virginia High School League Class 1 and Class 2 State Championship in Salem.
The Lady Dukes earned six points to finish 24th out of 32 scoring teams at Roanoke College.
Cumberland was paced by junior Janaia Trent, who placed seventh in the triple jump, freshman LaKyra Bartee, who placed eighth in the 55-meter hurdles, and the Lady Dukes 4×200-meter relay team, which placed sixth. The team was comprised of Trent, LaKyra Bartee, freshman NaKyra Bartee and sophomore Shamoni Bartee.
Earning five points, the Cumberland boys indoor track and field team managed 36th place out of 41 scoring teams.
Sophomore Mario Carter finished fifth in the 55-meter hurdles. He was the Region 2B champion in that event.
