Gov. Ralph Northam signed a proclamation designating February as School Board Appreciation Month.
In his proclamation, Northam said school board members are required to work with all stakeholders, including parents, businesses, educators, and community members to “create an educational vision.”
The proclamation also recognizes that school board members provide leadership and support for schools.
In honor of School Board Appreciation week, Cumberland School Board members were treated to dinner prepared by culinary arts students prior to the school board meeting.
Students in the elementary school created thank-you cards that were presented to board members.
The members also received gifts, many made by students. Gifts included posters, CuCPS T-shirts, coffee cups, and plaques. During the meeting, school board members were presented with certificates of appreciation for their service to Cumberland County Public Schools.
