Foley named officer of the year

Farmville Police Department Officer Dalton Foley has been named the department’s 2019 Police Officer of the Year.

Foley was recognized during the department’s annual awards banquet Thursday, Jan. 23.

“Dalton has not only met, but he has also exceeded all the requirements listed above to receive this award,” Farmville Police Chief A.Q. “Andy” Ellington said. “He is truly an asset to our department, and I could not be prouder to have him as a member of this department. His progression and work ethic over the past three years has been outstanding.”

Ellington noted nominations for this award were submitted by fellow officers and reviewed by staff to determine which officer exhibited excellence in their position and has gone above and beyond the call of duty.

Foley, along with officer Olivia Martin, has been credited for their heroic efforts on the night of Nov. 14 when they helped save the life of a woman from her burning car following an accident.

Foley was also awarded the S. O. Dunnavant, Driving Under the Influence (DUI) Enforcement Award.

According to Ellington, The DUI Enforcement Award is named in honor and memory of former Farmville Police Chief Stuart O. Dunnavant.

“The award recognizes the department member who demonstrates an outstanding commitment to the prevention, detection, and enforcement of the driving under the influence laws and for ensuring the safety of the public by removing impaired drivers from the streets of the Town of Farmville,” Ellington said.

Foley recorded eight DUI arrests for the year.

Other officers receiving commendations for exceptional service were during the awards banquet were: Justin Bowles, Dalen Coblentz, Samuel Entrekin, Rachel Herndon, Tim Holtz, Olivia Martin, Chris Moss and David Ragland.
