QUILT GROUP TO MEET, 10 a.m.-3 p.m. at the First Baptist Church fellowship hall, 815 N. Main Street, South Boston. The group creates lap quilts and throws for veterans, as well as for wounded active military overseas. All quilters and sewers of any experience welcome, as well as anyone who would like to learn. SOUP KITCHEN AND CLOTHING GIVEAWAY, 11 a.m.-2 p.m. at Tearwallet Baptist Church, Route 60/Anderson Highway, Cumberland. Come out and enjoy some delicious hot soup and pick up an outfit. Everything is free.

FREE FAMILY EVENT, 1 p.m. entitled “Birds of Prey” at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield. Program presented by Master Falconer Robb Herbst, who specializes in Virginia’s raptors.

MARRIAGE AND RELATIONSHIP CELEBRATION, 1 p.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. Understanding love, laughter, communication and forgiveness. Adults only. No childcare will be available. Refreshments will be served. Hosted by the Rev. Timothy Woodson.

BLACK HISTORY TOUR, 1:30-2:30 p.m. at Twin Lakes State Park with special tours of what used to be Prince Edward State. Visitors will be invited to tour the historic Cedar Crest Conference Center and see where visitors of Prince Edward State Park for Negroes swam, fish, dined and danced in the 1950s and 60s. This event is free to the public, but a parking fee applies, which can be paid at the park office.

TWELFTH ANNUAL AFRICAN AMERICAN BANQUET, 3 p.m. at the Frances Redwood Education Center in New Canton, sponsored by the United Baptist Women’s Missionary and Educational Convention of Central Virginia. “Honoring Outstanding Buckingham Community Leaders” is the theme. The attire is African outfits or the colors red, black, green, and gold.

CONCERT, 6 p.m. at Glenn Memorial Baptist Church, 146 Harris Creek Road, Prospect, featuring The Dixie Melody. No ticket required, a love offering will be taken.

DRAMA AND MUSICAL BY THE KING’S PLAYERS, 7 p.m. at the FOCUS Center of Concord Baptist Church, Sheppards. Liberty University students will present “Which Way?’, a humorous, thought provoking, and powerful dramatic presentation of the Gospel, which examines man’s ultimate destiny. There is no charge, and all are welcome.

BLACK HISTORY PROGRAM, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Farmville. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Dr. Amy Tillerson-Brown. Immediately following services, there will be a soul food feast and you are welcome to dress in African print clothing. The church is handicap accessible with an elevator.

BLACK HISTORY CELEBRATION, 11 a.m. at High Rock Baptist Church, Rice, with Nannie Helen Burroughs presented by Kathy English Holt. Everyone is encouraged to wear 1800- 1900 attire. Dinner will be served. All are welcome.

BLACK HISTORY PROGRAM, 2 p.m. at New Witt Baptist. The message will be delivered by the Rev. Dr. Calvin Gray accompanied by his congregation, the New Jerusalem Baptist Church of Appomattox. New Witt is located on Farmville Highway South. The Rev. Winston Bland is the pastor. The public is welcome.

BLACK HISTORY PROGRAM, immediately following morning worship at Green Creek New Site Baptist Church. Associate Minister, the Rev. Sarah Moses, will teach about Harriet Tubman, followed by lunch. Everyone is welcome.

PROGRAM, 3 p.m. at High Bridge Baptist Church, 2526 Lockett Road, Rice. Guest minister is the Rev. Mary Dabney with the Branches Run Mass Choir rendering the music of Amelia. A soul food dinner will be served at 2 p.m. African attire is encouraged. All are welcome.

FAMILY AND FRIEND’S DAY, 3 p.m. at Concord Baptist Church. The Rev. Andy Hargrove, Pastor of the Williams Grove Baptist Church, will deliver the sermon. The Williams Grove Baptist Church Choir will provide the music. Dinner will be served between the morning service and afternoon service. The community is welcome.

BABY SHOWER FOR FEMALE VETERANS, 6-8 p.m. at Merk’s Place, 2106 West 3rd Street, hosted by the American Legion Auxiliary Unit 32 of Farmville. New items from newborn to 24 months may be dropped off at Merk’s through Feb. 24. Gently-used items may be dropped at the Piedmont Area Veterans Council on 820 Longwood Avenue. GUEST SPEAKER, 7:30 p.m. in the Blackwell Ballroom of Longwood featuring Rodney Robinson, the 2019 National Teacher of the Year, to discuss his whole-child approach to education, as well as his efforts to improve equity in educational opportunities. The event is free and open to the public.

OPEN HOUSE, 4-7 p.m. at the Prince Edward County Cannery. This event is a chance for farmers, food entrepreneurs, and home canners to tour the facility, taste samples of our in-house recipes, see a demonstration and learn more about Virginia Food Work’s services.
