Landfill meeting planned

Cumberland County Landfill Alert Committee will be hosting its regular monthly meeting Sunday, Feb. 9 at 3 p.m. at the Cumberland Community Center located at 45 South and Davenport Road in Cumberland.

The purpose of the meeting is to inform Cumberland County residents and surrounding counties with updated information as to the effects of the mega landfill.

Happy birthday wishes go out this week to the following people: Martha Miles of Richmond, Jane Crawley and John Trammell both of Farmville on Friday, Jan. 24 and Allan Gough of Wingina.

Spreading God’s Gifts Inc., a non-profit organization that helps people in their hour of need in Buckingham and surrounding counties, will be hosting a fundraising dinner on Saturday evening Feb. 1 located at First Baptist Church in Dillwyn. Dinner will be served at 5 p.m. to include pork roast and gravy, mashed potatoes, green beans, roll, dessert and beverage all for a donation. Eat in or take out. This will be followed by door prizes and gospel music featuring the First Baptist Church Choir of Dillwyn. For further information call (434) 983-2269.

The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association will host its regular monthly meeting Saturday, Feb. 1 at 1 p.m. at the Welcome Wesleyan Church located at 26599 North James Madison Highway. The Appomattox County Athletic Booster Club presents Bluegrass/Bluegrass Gospel featuring “Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver” Feb. 9 at 2 p.m. at Appomattox County High School, 198 Evergreen Avenue.
