Knights top Cougars to improve to 11-0

Buckingham County High School’s varsity boys basketball team defeated visiting Nottoway High School 60-50 on Friday night, Jan. 10, pushing the Knights’ undefeated record to 11-0 on the season, including a 6-0 mark in the James River District (JRD).

“I’m very proud of this team and how we’ve played thus far,” Knights Head Coach Taylor Boyers said. “We still have room for improvement, and that’s what we’re going to continue to strive for.”

Leading the Knights in Friday’s game was junior forward Gerry “Tae” Toney with 17 points. Sophomore guard Damorrious Holman and senior center James DeVore added nine points apiece.

“We have a lot of tough games left on our schedule,” Boyers said. “Our main focus right now is to keep working and getting better and take it one game at a time.”

On Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 7 p.m., Buckingham will host Goochland High School (6-1, 4-0 JRD) in a showdown of the top two teams in the district.
