Billy Loyd Humphrey

Billy Loyd Humphrey was born April 2,1933 in Saline Louisiana to Fred Monroe Humphrey and Josephine Strawther. He was an athlete during his high school years and excelled in basketball. He then joined the Navy, married his first wife Norma Elmore, sharing 25 wonderful years and three children.
He spent 20 years in the Navy predominantly as a submariner, then continued in Civil Service as an electrician, planner and estimator at Dam Neck Base in Virginia Beach, Virginia. The second half of his life was spent in Buckingham County, Virginia where he was blessed with his second wife, Anne Eanes and many wonderful friendships in the community. During this time he spent several years with the Volunteer Rescue Squad.
Billy was a member of Centenary United Methodist Church in Scottsville, VA. He was a lifetime member of the Leaning Pines Hunt Club where he had some of the most enjoyable times of his life. He was a long time participant with Mulberry Grove Fellowship where he enjoyed playing music and being with friends. He was a lifetime member of the NRA, The American Legion, and a Master Mason of Taylor Lodge. He was also a member of Buckingham Christian Senior Fellowship Association.
He was an avid fisherman who loved telling stories, playing guitar and making people smile. He loved his family, his church and his farm. His children and grandchildren greatly appreciated his strength and patience.
He was predeceased in death by his daughter, Linda Jean, his brothers; James, Sydney and Donald Humphrey, his sisters; Ruby Walsworth, Joyce Southern and Ruth Dorman. He is survived by his brother Stanley Humphrey, his sister Lila Butler, sons- Daniel and Douglas Humphrey, his grandchildren- Zachary Humphrey, William Humphrey, Danielle Jean and Spring Hatfield, and his great grandchildren- Zander Humphrey and Alexis Jean.
A memorial service will be held at Centenary UMC, Saturday, January 18 at 1 p.m., located at 12247 S. Constitution Rte, Scottsville, Virginia.
