Cruising to a third win

Cumberland County High School’s varsity girls basketball team routed visiting Bluestone High School on Wednesday, Dec. 11, by a score of 53-28 to improve to 3-1 on the season. It was the second win in a row for the senior-laden Lady Dukes, who orchestrated a 35-point win over host Central Lunenburg High School on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 64-29, benefiting from a 35-point performance by sophomore guard Shamoni Bartee. Nikki Hurt, pictured above, is one of the six seniors on the nine-member Lady Dukes squad that is helping make it highly competitive. Cumberland (3-1) returns to action tonight in the first day of the two-day Cumberland Holiday Classic, hosting William Campbell High School at 8 p.m. after Prince Edward County High School (2-1) takes on Altavista Combined School at 6 p.m.
