Christmas spirit in the neighborhood

The Christmas Shoppe at Payne Memorial UMC in Cumberland will be held at noon on Dec. 14, then at 7 p.m. there will be a live nativity at Hobson’s Chapel UMC.

Come and enjoy Lights at The Lake (Bear Creek Lake State Park) 22 Bear Creek Lake Road, Cumberland, for a drive through light show the weekend of Dec. 13-15, from 5-7:30 p.m. Admission fees will be waived with a new unwrapped toy or monetary donation to benefit Cumberland Christmas Mother. Activities to include s’mores and cocoa from 5-7:30 p.m. at Bear Creek Hall. S’mores kits available for a nominal donation. There will also be ornaments for sale.

Cumberland County Landfill Alert Committee will be hosting its regular monthly meeting on Sunday, Jan.12, at 3 p.m. at the Cumberland Community Center located at 45 South and Davenport Road in Cumberland. The purpose of this meeting is to inform Cumberland County residents and surrounding counties with updated information as to why this mega landfill will be detrimental to everyone. All are welcome to attend.

Happy birthday wishes go out this week to the following people: Nancy Midkiff of Cumberland on Friday, Dec. 13, and John Dimmie of Farmville on Saturday, Dec. 14.

The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors monthly meeting is held every second Tuesday unless otherwise announced at 7 p.m. in the Cumberland County Courtroom.

A speedy recovery is sent out to all those who are sick and shut-in.

Buckingham United Methodist Charge consisting of Browns Chapel, Hanes Chapel and Rocky Mount United Methodist churches, will be hosting its annual Christmas Eve services on Tuesday, Dec. 24, at 4 p.m. at Browns Chapel UMC located on State Route 617, Gravel Hill Road, Dillwyn. Pastor Evelyn Penn and the entire congregation welcome all to attend.

Cedar Baptist Church located 3932 Bell Road Dillwyn will be hosting its annual Christmas Eve service on Tuesday, Dec. 24, at 6 p.m. Pastor Tommy Armstrong and the entire congregation welcome all to attend.

Victory Baptist Church located on 4339 Salem Road Spout Springs, will be hosting its live nativity on Friday and Saturday, Dec. 13-14, from 6:30 p.m. -8:30 p.m. Pastor Jeff Worley and the entire congregation welcome all to attend.

Christmas Parade lineup will be as follows: Friday, Dec.13 at 6 p.m., Blackstone; Saturday, Dec.14, at 2 p.m. Powhatan; and Sunday, Dec.15, at 3 p.m. will be Dillwyn.

Buckingham Baptist Church located on 24234 North James Madison Highway, Gold Hill area of New Canton, will be hosting its annual Christmas program to feature Bluegrass Gospel at its best featuring “True Spirit” of Richmond on Saturday, Dec. 14, at 5 p.m. followed by light refreshments in the Church Fellowship Hall. Pastor Anthony Sacco and the entire congregation welcome all to attend.
