Not quite right?

Editor,

In regard to the front page article titled, “Board waives fees for Fuqua,” in The Farmville Herald dated Nov. 8; I am kind of new around here … so I may have the wrong idea about public versus private and how money goes between them, but are county boards in the habit of “gifting” county services to private (non-charitable) entities within the county? Although the numbers are only relevant when measured relatively, possibly, and I may have misunderstood the math, but one-third of daily intake of income ($3,435.74), seems like a large amount to forgo because this private school represented itself well in an academic competition and expressed an interest in helping out economically in the future. Possibly well meaning and generous, such a “gift” of county money to a private entity has the appearance of something not quite right.

Sincerely,
