The Nora Lancaster Garden Club met Oct. 19 in the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library. The program was a workshop entitled “Welcome Advent,” presented by club members Patricia Crute, Linda Rofe and Helen Smith. Crute introduced the program with a powerpoint presentation on the history, purpose, and various styles of making Advent wreaths. Following the introduction, the committee demonstrated making a wreath and assisted members in making their own wreaths out of fresh greens. The wreaths were completed by placing candles in them, which will be lit during the season of Advent. The exhibit was “Hunt and Gather,” using a combination of blossoms and leaves in a cast-off or prized container. Winning blue were Patricia Crute, Becky Kelly and Helen Smith. Blue ribbon winners for horticulture were Patricia Crute and Becky Kelly. Hostesses were Yvonne Costello, Lazelle Jackson and Helen Smith. Pictured are Smith and Crute putting the finishing touches on an Advent wreath.
