Jazz ensemble at Jarman Auditorium

On Tuesday, Nov. 12, at 7:30 p.m. the Longwood University (LU) jazz ensemble will present a free concert at Jarman Auditorium on the LU campus. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend. Doors will open at 7 p.m.
The LU Jazz Ensemble, in its 27th year under the direction of Dr. Charles Kinzer, will perform music associated with Dizzy Gillespie, Count Basie, Buddy Miles and Glenn Miller, among others.
The jazz program will feature Dr. Kevin Callihan, as guest trombone soloist. Dr. Callihan is in his first year as assistant professor of music at Longwood University, where he directs in the LU Wind Symphony. He earned a doctorate in conducting and trombone performance from the University of Kentucky, and comes to Longwood after four years on the music faculty at Kentucky Wesleyan College.
Student soloists from the LU jazz ensemble will include Chad Ukrop, a junior trumpeter from Chesterfield, Brandon Glass, a sophomore trumpeter from Matoaca, Brian Searcy, a sophomore saxophonist from Powhatan, and Mark Smith, a sophomore drummer from Midlothian.
