Hit-and-run under investigation

A 39-year-old Rice woman has been arrested and charged with felony hit-and-run, and with having no valid operator’s license following a motor vehicle accident involving two pedestrians Wednesday, Oct. 30.
According to a release from the Farmville Police Department, the accident occurred around 4:31 p.m. at the intersection of Putney Street and South Main Street when a 2008 Dodge Charger driven by Casie Lee Giles was turning left from Putney Street onto South Main Street while two pedestrians attempted to cross the street.
Both pedestrians were struck by the oncoming vehicle stated the release.
Farmville Police Chief A.Q. “Andy” Ellington said that Giles left the scene and was later located at her residence in Rice by Prince Edward County Sheriff’s Department deputies. A witness at the scene obtained Giles’ license plate number.
The pedestrians, a white female age 18 and a white male age 19, were transported to Centra Southside Community Hospital with minor injuries.
Giles was later arrested and charged. Giles was released on a $2,500 secured bond.
The Farmville Police Department is continuing to investigate the accident.
