After going 3-27 last season, which was the first year at the helm of the program for Head Coach Rebecca Tillett, the Longwood University women’s basketball team is showing remarkable improvement within the first four games of the 2019-20 campaign, already possessing a record of 2-2.

The Lancers followed up a 59-58 victory over visiting University of North Carolina Wilmington on Wednesday, Nov. 13, by defeating visiting Brown University 86-76 on Saturday, Nov. 16.

A Longwood Athletics press release noted that the Lancers used senior Dayna Rouse’s first double-double of the season, and four double-digit scoring performances, for their first back-to-back victories since 2016.

After trailing for 26 minutes of play, Longwood captured the lead in the final 11 minutes and did not look back, scoring 48 points in the second half on 43% shooting, the release cited.

“Credit to our women for responding to the challenge,” Tillett said in the release. “We dug ourselves a hole, and we challenged them as a staff to overcome the deficit, and they came out and made the decision that they were going to make the run.”

Longwood visits Wofford College (0-4) on Wednesday, Nov. 20, at 7 p.m.
