Southside SPCA Fall Festival

The Southside SPCA Fall Festival and Open House has been postponed to Sunday, Nov. 3, according to Director Sandy Wyatt.

Festivities for the event include a pet costume contest, raffle baskets for dogs, cats and people along with jewelry, novelty and homemade baked goods vendors. Adoptable dogs and cats will also be at the festival.

The festival and open house will be held from noon to 4 p.m. at 7352 Patrick Henry Highway, Meherrin. Organizers request all dogs be on a leash.

The Southside SPCA is dedicated to the welfare of companion animals in Southside Virginia. They operate two shelters — the main shelter is in Prince Edward County and the second shelter, known as a “Field of Dreams,” which serves as a training and rehabilitation center for hounds and older dogs, is located in Lunenburg County.

According to its website the Southside SPCA, “… have provided rescue, shelter, medical treatment, spay/neuter, and adoption services to over 45,000 puppies, kittens, cats, and dogs since we began operating in 1975. We are a no-kill shelter operating mostly with volunteers.” An independent, donor supported, nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization, the Southside SPCA serves the counties of Amelia, Appomattox, Brunswick, Buckingham, Charlotte, Cumberland, Dinwiddie, Halifax, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Nottoway and Prince Edward.
