SCA officers inducted at Central VA Christian School

Browns Chapel United Methodist Church will host its third annual Women’s Retreat on Saturday, Oct. 12. The retreat will be held from 4-8:30 p.m. at Browns Chapel, 1711 Gravel Hill Road, Dillwyn. Jenny McIntosh, from New Life of Farmville, will be the keynote speaker for the event and there will be three small workshops through which all the attendants will rotate. The evening will be one of fellowship and worship.

Come learn more about the goals and vision of the candidates for the Maysville District and Buckingham County as you consider casting your vote for candidates on the Buckingham County Board of Supervisors on Election Day. This candidate forum will be held on Saturday at 6 p.m. at the County Administrator’s complex in the Peter Francisco Board of Supervisors Room on Route 60.

Have you ever wanted to spend the night at the zoo? Well, now is your chance. Youth ages nine- 19, plus interested adult family members may sign up now for this trip on Oct. 11-12 for the 4-H Zoo Snooze. Meet at the Cumberland Extension Office at 3:30 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 11, and return to the same location on Saturday, Oct. 12, around 6 p.m. Call the Buckingham Extension office at (434) 969-4261 for more information.

The Buckingham County Public Library is hosting a home-school program on Tuesday. Check the website at www.cvrl.net or their page on Facebook for more details.

Buckingham County High School is hosting a Super FAFSA Workshop for high school seniors and their parents to complete the FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid). Completing the FAFSA allows seniors the opportunity to receive grants, scholarships, and state aid for college. All families, of any income, are strongly encouraged to complete the FAFSA. The workshop will be on Tuesday beginning at 6 p.m. with free pizza. A parent or guardian must be present to complete the FAFSA and parent and student social security numbers are required. It’s time again for the Dillwyn Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary’s Chicken Barbeque Fundraiser. Chicken will be ready by noon on Sunday at the firehouse. Dinners include half a chicken, potato salad, baked beans, bread, drink and dessert.

The Curdsville Community Center will hold its monthly meeting Monday at 6:30 p.m. at the Community Center. A program on Foster Care in Buckingham County will be presented by Mrs. Stephanie Coleman, Director of Social Services. Everyone is welcome and ask to bring a covered dish to share. The community center is located at 122 School Road just off Route 15.
