Buckingham educators attend conference

Virginia school board members, educators and legislators, including Buckingham County Public Schools Superintendent Dr. Daisy Hicks and School Board Members Thomas Hutcherson, Theresa Bryant and Jacqueline Newton attended the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) Legislative Advocacy Conference in Midlothian on Sept. 24.
The purpose of the conference was to offer participants the opportunity to learn about upcoming issues for the 2020 legislative session and learn about hot topics in education.
Some of the sessions included: A discussion on school modernization in the Commonwealth with Senator William Stanley. Panel discussion on the 2020 General Assembly with Sen. R. Creigh Deeds, Sen. Jennifer McClellan, Del. Lashrecse Aird and Del. David Bulova. An overview of public education funding in Virginia and emerging issues with Deputy Superintendent for Finance and Operations with the Virginia Department of Education Kent Dickey. State and Local Government Conflict of Interests Act by Rebeka Stefanski, attorney with the Virginia Conflict of Interest and Ethics Advisory Council. And prep for the 2020 General Assembly Session.
