The Nora Lancaster Garden Club (NLGC) met Sept. 17 in the Barbara Rose Johns Farmville-Prince Edward Community Library. Director of Public Services with Patrick Henry Family Services and avid gardener Jennifer Wall was the guest speaker. Her topic was “Peyton’s Potpourri.” She explained how she and her daughter Peyton were inspired to transform their long expired flowers into fragrant potpourri. Using examples of flowers appropriate for drying, she showed the members the steps needed in preparing the flowers and the kinds of oils she used to enhance the fragrance of the finished product. Wall concluded her presentation by assembling a gift bag of potpourri and sharing hints of ways to arrange the dried flowers for the best appearance.
Prior to the business meeting, Helen Smith, club president, requested a moment of silence in memory of long time and dedicated member Marie Blanton.
Members winning ribbons for their artistic arrangements entitled “September Sunshine” were (blue) Helen Smith and Becky Kelly and (red) Betty Coleman and Tricia Crute. Blue ribbon winners in the horticulture category were Betty Coleman, Tricia Crute, Dr. Barbara Smith, Linda Rofe and Becky Kelly.
Hostesses were Helen Smith, Connie Moore and Betty Coleman.
