Farmville Mayor David Whitus signed a proclamation this week designating Sept. 11 as Good Neighbor Day in Farmville.
Rochette’s Florist will be giving away a dozen roses to each person who stops by their florist on Sept. 11.
“We give away a dozen roses with the condition that the recipient keeps one rose and gives the other 11 to 11 people,” said Sidney Allen, manager and master designer. “Each rose represents at least two smiles, one from the giver and one from the recipient. It’s a goodwill gesture to promote kindness and generosity in our community.”
The roses are free, but donations are being accepted to benefit the Virginia Children’s Book Festival.
In past years Carter’s Flower Shop has also participated in Good Neighbor Day but will not be doing so this year.
