Cumberland County Landfill Alert Committee will be hosting their regular monthly meeting on Sunday at 3 p.m. at the Cumberland Community Center located at 45 South and Davenport Road in Cumberland. At this meeting you will have the opportunity to meet the candidates who are running for public office in November for Cumberland County. Both new and re-elected candidates that choose to come will be given a chance to share with the citizens what their plans and goals are if elected. Following the presentation the candidates will be available to answer questions and talk with the citizens. All are welcome.

There will a benefit gospel sing on Saturday from 6-8 p.m. at Glenn Memorial Baptist Church located at 146 Harris Creek Road, Prospect. The benefit is for Barry and Linda Miles of Cumberland. Barry’s wife, Linda recently spent 17 days in the hospital and has made a number of trips to the emergency room, which has set them back financially with a number of obligations. Coming to perform are The Old Time Gospel Singers of Crewe, Eddie Senger of Chester, The Cumberland Gospel Singers, Barry Miles of Cumberland, Jeff Worley of Concord, who also will be speaking. All are welcome to attend. The event is being coordinated by Eddie Senger at (804) 837-1944 and Donna Pike at (804) 337-0053. The Cumberland County Board of Supervisors monthly meeting is held every second Tuesday unless otherwise announced at 7 p.m. in the Cumberland County Court Room.

Happy anniversary wishes go out this week to Pastor Terry and Pam Tolliver of Dillwyn on Tuesday, Sept. 10.

Welcome all to the 13th annual Fellowship Gospel Singing featuring Smokey Wilson & Michael Wayne Smith. This will take place at Becky and Linda’s Powell’s home on Friday, Sept. 20 from 5-9 p.m., located 460 Holland Road, Farmville. Food and drinks will be provided. All you will need is a chair and a desire for a blessing. So come and join us for a time of uplifting praise and fellowship with friends and family. The Buckingham County Christian Fellowship Association, a nonprofit organization, will be hosting their regular monthly meeting on Monday at 5 p.m. at Cedar Baptist Church located U.S Route 15 North of Dillwyn at 3932 Bell Road, Dillwyn. All members and their guests are welcome to attend and bring a covered dish for the meal. This will be followed by the September program featuring gospel music at its best by Bill Humphrey of Howardsville. Our sympathy is extended to the following families, locally, Betty Lou Dunn Waycaster, age 85 of Dillwyn, Earl Henderson Amos, age 89 of Farmville and William Anderson “Buddy” Pankey, III of New Canton, age 79, all recently went home to be with the Lord. They will all be greatly missed by all.

A speedy recovery is sent out to all those who are sick and shut-in.
