Cumberland County High School’s varsity football team lost its season opener 47-6 to visiting Chatham High School on Friday night.

Dukes Head Coach Howard Paras said his team needs to improve on fundamentals.

“We were one missed block here, one missed block there from establishing some pretty good offense, but unfortunately, it only takes one miss to stall you,” he said. “… As far as strengths, I feel like the effort was definitely there from all our guys. (I) thought the defense played well, especially in the first half, and then attrition started to set in a little bit. We had a few injuries. Then things didn’t quite go our way after that.”
