The Hampden-Sydney College (H-SC) golf team has been named as a recipient of the Golf Coaches Association of America (GCAA) All-Academic Team Award, a recent H-SC athletics press release cited.
Officials in the release stated that the Tigers attained this prestigious academic honor with their overall team GPA of 3.18 during the 2018-19 school year. The GCAA recently honored 29 NCAA Division III intercollegiate men’s programs that posted team grade point averages of 3.0 or greater for the most recent academic year.
“It’s fantastic to see our student-athletes get rewarded for the hard work they put into their academic studies,” second-year Tigers Head Coach Chad Eisele said in the release. “I’m very proud of their respective efforts to do well in the classroom while also achieving such a high-level of success on the course.”
The release noted that Tigers team members included senior Jamie Agnew, juniors John David Gooden, Adam Hade and Bruce Shober, sophomores Allen Smith, Dylan Taylor and Varun Yerramsetti along with freshmen John Hatcher Ferguson, Jimmy Hill, Henry Ingram, Keith Marks and Hunter Martin.
The H-SC golf team was represented among the top 15 teams in national rankings for both the Division III Bushnell Golfweek Coaches Poll (12th) and the Golfstat Division III Top 25 (13th) after posting a 72-hole score of 1,222 (297-315-309-301) to finish 12th at the NCAA Division III National Championships, officials said in the release. The Tigers earned six top-five finishes among eight top-10 efforts in 10 overall tournaments this year, averaging a score of 296.67 per round.
