Approximately 100 families attended a school supply drive hosted at the Prince Edward Elks Lodge by the Carl U. Eggleston Foundation on Monday.
While there, children could get new backpacks, folders, pencils, erasers and other supplies distributed by volunteers. Participants also enjoyed hot dogs and other goodies.
Organizer Carl Eggleston said donations came primarily from the foundation, members of the community, the Elk’s Lodge Chapter #269 and Manhattan Temple Chapter #184.
Motivational speakers during the event included Prince Edward Sheriff Wesley Reed, Prince Edward Commonwealth’s Attorney Megan Clark and Prince Edward County Public Schools Director of Support Services Richard Goode.
Reed, Clark and Goode encouraged students to listen to their parents, ask teachers questions and to become involved in school.
Eggleston said for those who need school supplies, he can be reached at (434) 392-7000.
