On Saturday, August 24, 2019 George Thomas “Skip” Hoag, 84, of Buckingham, Virginia passed away at his home surrounded by his family. He was born to the late George Hoag and Mary Gaines Hoag Grigg on September 27, 1934.

He is survived by his wife, Virginia Coleman “Ginny” Hoag. On September 1, they would have celebrated their 62nd anniversary. Also, surviving are his children, Terry Hoag Hadden (Dave), Tim Hoag, Tricia Hoag Wingo; numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren; brother, Robert J. Hoag; sister-in-law, Sandra B. Coleman; several nieces and a nephew, many cousins and special friends. He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, John R. Wingo, Jr.

In 1956, Skip graduated from Fordham University.

During his long career, his employers included: General Electric, Babcock and Wilcox, HiTest Labs and New York Life. His many accomplishments included: charter member and first chief of the Toga Volunteer Fire Department, President, Buckingham County Lions Club, President, Buckingham County PTA, member of Buckingham County Rescue Squad, Co-founder of Catholic Churches in Buckingham and Appomattox. His hobbies included, traveling, duck hunting, love of sports, including baseball, golf, UVA and Fordham basketball. He was also a private pilot. His priorities were his faith and love of his family.

Funeral services will be held Saturday, August 31, at 2 p.m. at Our Lady of Peace Catholic Church, Appomattox. A memorial graveside service will take place at the Coleman Family Cemetery, Toga, VA at 4 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to your local hospice or food bank organizations.
