Staff members from Cumberland County Public Schools (CuCPS) joined other Virginia school board members, educators, governing officials, attorneys and legislators at the Virginia School Boards Association (VSBA) 34th annual Conference on Education in Richmond on July 23. The purpose of the conference was to offer participants the opportunity to learn about successful educational practices occurring throughout the state.
Participants had the opportunity to attend their choice of more than 25 mini-workshops on topics such as curriculum and instruction, workforce readiness, finance, partnerships, school/community relations, personnel, school law and special programs. The presenters included educators from state and local levels and business representatives. Two CuCPS staff members, Director of Human Resources Dr. Elizabeth Jamerson and Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction Dr. Sheri Almond, presented at the conference on implementing the Profile of a Virginia Graduate initiative.
Attendees heard greetings from Governor Ralph Northam and State Board of Education President Daniel Gecker. The conference featured keynote speaker Ravi Hutheesing, who discussed millennial leadership, and an update from the VSBA Task Force on Students and Schools in Challenging Environments.
