The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@FarmvilleHerald.com.

AUGUST 9

10TH ANNIVERSARY EVENT, noon of the Prince Edward County Triad at the Firemen’s Arena, 1328 Zion Hill Road, Farmville. There will be door prizes, vendor freebies with lunch provided by Farmville Rehabilitation and Health. Guest speaker will be from the Attorney General’s Office.

SUMMER OUTDOOR FILM SERIES, dusk, at Crute Stage, corner of Main and Fourth Street, Farmville. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Popcorn, candy and drinks will be for sale. No pets permitted. Rain date will be following evening.

AUGUST 9-10

FAMILY FORESTLAND SHORT-COURSE, 5:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday and 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. on Saturday at Longwood University. To register, contact Jason at (434) 476-2147, ext. 3389.

AUGUST 10

BIG YARD SALE, 8 a.m.-1 p.m. at The Piedmont Area Veterans Council, 820 Longwood Avenue, Farmville. Lots of children’s clothes. The public may also leave donations for the office supplies used by the PAVC to prepare Veterans’ claims at this location.

WOMEN’S DAY WORKSHOP, 9 a.m.-1 p.m. hosted by the Women’s Ministry of Tearwallet Baptist Church of Cumberland. Guest facilitator will be Barbara Shepperson. Theme: Proverbs 31 – The Blessing. Brunch will be served.

FREE COMMUNITY DINNER, 5:30 p.m. at Farmville Church of Christ, 1401 Milnwood Road, Farmville. A movie will be shown at 7 p.m. All are welcome. This will be the second Saturday each month.

SUMMER NIGHT STARLIGHT, 8-9:30 p.m. hosted by the Crewe Astronomy Club at Sailor’s Creek visitor center.

AUGUST 11

FELLOWSHIP SUNDAY, 9:45 a.m. at Farmville Baptist Church beginning with Bible study followed by fellowship at 10:30 a.m. and communion and worship service at 11 a.m.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Beautiful Plain Baptist Church, Charlotte Court House. The Rev. Walter Fells will deliver the morning message with Mercy Seat Church Choir to render the music. All are welcome. Dinner will be served.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at New Witt Baptist Church located on Farmville Highway South, Meherrin Road, Farmville. Homecoming expressions will begin at 10 a.m. with praise and prayer at 10:30 a.m. Pastor Winston Bland will deliver the message.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at New Hope Baptist Church of Keysville. The Rev. Norvell Barber from North Carolina will deliver the morning message. An afternoon meal will be served.

HOMECOMING, 11:30 a.m. at Rocky Branch Baptist with Pastor the Rev. Scott delivering the message. Dinner will be served.

LANDFILL ALERT MEETING, 3 p.m. at Cumberland County Community Center, 11 Davenport Road, Cumberland. Join residents dedicated to informing residents about the Proposed County Waste/Green Ridge Landfill project and opposing its development.

AUGUST 11-14

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Sharon Baptist Church of Cumberland. Pastor Robert Jones will deliver the message followed by a fellowship dinner. No afternoon service. Revival will be held Monday-Wednesday starting with praise service at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Gary Harmon. All are welcome.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church. Dinner will be served. Revival will begin on Monday with the Rev. Davenport delivering the message and Tearwallet’s choir and ushers with Wednesday service provided by the Rev. Patrick Bland. All are welcome.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL at Sulphur Spring Baptist Church. Revival starts on Monday and ends on Friday with different preachers for the week. All are welcome.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, at Chief Cornerstone Baptist Church. The Rev. Timothy Jackson from Baptist Union will bring the afternoon message. Prayer and praise will begin at 2:30 p.m. followed by worship at 3 p.m. Revival will begin Monday-Wednesday each night with prayer and praise at 7:30 p.m. There will be different guest speakers and choirs each night.

AUGUST 11-16

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Macedonia Baptist Church, Rice beginning with morning worship with Pastor Jimmy R. Coleman. Lunch will be served. Homecoming service at 3 p.m. with guest the Rev. Kim White and the Bloomfield Baptist Church, Petersburg. Revival, Aug. 14-16 with prayer and praise service at 7:30 p.m. and the preached word at 8 p.m. There will be different preachers and choirs each night.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Rocky Mount Baptist Church, 919 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland, with the Rev. Larry E. Smith. Dinner will follow. The Rev. Leon Jackson, Pastor of Zion Hill Baptist Church, will be the quest preacher for the afternoon service at 3 p.m. Revival service will take place Monday-Friday with prayer and praise at 7:30 p.m. and worship at 8 p.m. The Rev. Kevin Bolden of Oak Union Baptist Church, Charlottesville, will be the revivalist for the week with different choirs each night.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11:30 a.m. at Peaks Baptist Church, Prospect with the Rev. Bennett Johnson, III. Pastor of Solid Rock Baptist Church, Patterson New Jersey. Bennett is the nephew of the Rev. Otis Johnson. A fellowship dinner will be served. Revival services will be held Monday-Friday with prayer and praise at 7p.m. followed by worship at 7:30 p.m. There will be a different pastor, accompanied by their church choir and ushers. All are welcome.

AUGUST 12

TECHNOLOGY CLASS, 3-4:30 p.m. Internet basics at Cumberland Public Library.

AUGUST 14

FOOD AS A BUSINESS WORKSHOP, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Prince Edward County Extension Office, followed by a tour of the Cannery. Register by calling (434) 392-4246.

COMMUNITY LUNCHEON, noon at Payne Memorial UMC located at 1 Stoney Point Road, Cumberland. The speaker for the luncheon will be the Rev. Kyle Corbin covering the topic “Living out our Calling.” A meal will be provided by the ladies of the church.

GROUP MEETING, 5 p.m. of the Farmville Baptist Church knit and crochet group each Wednesday in the parlor.

AUGUST 14-16

REVIVAL, 7 p.m. nightly at New Hope Baptist Church of Keysville.

REVIVAL, 7:30 p.m. at New Witt Baptist Church, Farmville Highway South, Meherrin Road, Farmville. Prayer and praise will begin at 7 p.m. Different guest ministers and choirs each night. All are welcome.

AUGUST 15

TECHNOLOGY CLASS, 3-4:30 p.m. Cybersecurity basic at Cumberland Public Library.

CANDIDATES FORUM, 6:30 p.m. at the Curdsville Community Center for the 3rd District of Buckingham County. Three people are running for the Board of Supervisors and three for the Soil and Water board of the county. No debate, just informational. All voters of the 3rd District are encouraged to come. The Community Center is located at 122 School Road just off U.S. Route 15.

AUGUST 16

FULL MOON OPEN TRAIL NIGHT, 8:30-11 p.m. at High Bridge Trail State Park between the Farmville and Rice trail. Bikes welcome. Event is free, parking rates apply.

AUGUST 17

GROW YOUR OWN GARDENING WORKSHOP, 9 a.m.-4 p.m. at Prince Edward County Extension office followed by a tour of the Cannery from 4-5 p.m. Register by calling (434) 392-4246.

AUTO CLUB TO MEET, 4 p.m.-dusk hosted by The Heart Of Virginia Auto Club in the parking lot by Tractor Supply and AA Storage. Bring your classic auto to show or drop by and check them out. There will be a 50/50 drawing.

AUGUST 18

BIBLE STUDY, 9:45 a.m. at Farmville Baptist Church with worship service at 11 a.m.

CELEBRATION, 3 p.m. at Rocky Branch Baptist Church for the 400th year of Being in America. Two sermonettes will be delivered along with the SMG choir rendering the music. Dinner will be served. Come out and celebrate with us.

WOMEN’S MINISTRY PROGRAM, 3 p.m. at Antioch Baptist Church, Keysville. Prophetess Sharon Davis of Richmond will be the guest proclaimer and the Mt. Ellis Baptist Church choir will render the music. Everyone is welcome.

AUGUST 18-22

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 10 a.m. at Salem United Methodist Church, Ca Ira Road, Cumberland, beginning with Sunday school. Worship service at 11:15 a.m. with the Rev. Billy Swan. Dinner will be served. Revival services will be held each night at 7 p.m. with the Rev. Alan Murphy. There will be special music each night with different guests. All are welcome.

AUGUST 18-23

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at St. Andrews Baptist Church, Cullen with pastor, the Rev. Dr. Maurice D. Finney preaching the morning service. Dinner will be served. There will be no afternoon service. Revival will begin on Monday with praise service at 7 p.m. and regular service at 7:30 p.m. Revivalist for the week will be Elder James Holcomb, III from Alabama. Different choirs will render the music.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Midway Baptist Church. Dinner will be served. There will be no afternoon service. Revival will be held Monday-Friday with prayer and praise services beginning nightly at 7:30 p.m. followed by worship service at 8 p.m. There will be different ministers for the week. The Rev. Irma T. Watson is Pastor.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11:30 a.m. at Mt. Nebo Baptist Church. Dinner served immediately following service. Revival starts on Monday at 7 p.m. Guest minister is the Rev. Adam Freeman. There will be a different choirs each night. Come out and fellowship.
