The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Friday. Items must be submitted by 10 a.m. Monday for that Friday’s calendar. Events should be emailed to CommunityCalendar@ FarmvilleHerald.com.

AUGUST 2

OPENING RECEPTION, 6-8 p.m. at Riverside Cafe. The August and September show will feature the art of Dean Lord, Donna McRae-Jones and Brenda McMillan.

LIVE AT RIVERSIDE, 6-9 p.m. Chance of Snow will take the stage. Bring your blankets, chairs and have a great time by the river. Food will be provided by The Fishin’ Pig.

CONCERT, 7 p.m. at Sandy Creek Baptist Church, 25450 E. Saylers Creek Road, Jetersville. Performing will be Down East Boys. Concert is free and everyone is welcome.

AUGUST 3

BBQ DINNER/BOSTON BUTT SALE FUNDRAISER, hosted by The Randolph District Volunteer Fire Department at 2145 Cumberland Road. Pre-order Boston Butts by calling Tim Baber at (804) 304-2394 or any fireman. Butts must be preordered by July 22. The dinner will consist of barbecue, bun, coleslaw, baked beans, macaroni and cheese, dessert and drink. Takeouts will also be available after 4 p.m.

AUGUST 4

HOMECOMING, 10:30 a.m. at Shiloh Baptist Church, 125 Shiloh Church Road. The Rev. Horace Parham, Pastor will bring forth the word and music by Brother Steve Hurt and Shiloh Praise Ensemble. All are welcome. Dinner will be served.

GOSPEL CONCERT, 11 a.m. at Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church featuring Smokey Robinson. All are welcome.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Petersville Baptist Church, 3330 Petersville Church Road, New Canton, with Pastor Ollie W. Bolden and the church choir. Lunch to follow.

ALLEN FAMILY REUNION, 11 a.m. at College Presbyterian Church, Hampden Sydney with church services and reunion to follow in the fellowship hall.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Mt Zion Baptist Church of New Canton. The Rev. Don Campbell of Richmond will be preaching the morning worship service. Sunday School begins at 9:45 a.m. Lunch will be served.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Mt. Moriah Upper Room Baptist Church, 1913 Tuggle Road, with Pastor, the Rev. Stanley Wesley bringing the word. Lunch will be served. There will be no evening service.

HOMECOMING, 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church, 1144 Hendricks Road, Prospect, with Pastor Darryl Brown speaker. Lunch will be served.

FAMILY AND FRIENDS DAY, 11 a.m. at Mercy Seat Baptist Church. All are welcome to attend. The Rev. Walter M. Fells is the pastor.

AMERICAN KESTREL, 2 p.m. at Sailor’s Creek Battlefield presented by Master Naturalists. Learn about the fascinating bird of prey. Event will be held in the visitor center. Free admission.

AUGUST 4-7

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL 11 a.m. at Woodland United Methodist Church. Pastor George Schaefer will deliver the message for the homecoming service, followed by a meal. Pastor Jeff Whorley will bring forth the message each evening for revival, Monday-Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. Special music each night. Woodland United Methodist is located at 2087 Woodland Church Road Buckingham, 4 miles off Route 56.

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at First Liberty Baptist Church. Revival will begin on Monday with praise service at 7:30 p.m. with Revivalist Dr. Rev. Roscoe D. Cooper, III of Rising Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Richmond. Different choirs will render music each night. A fellowship meal will be served following the morning service.

REVIVAL, 7:30 p.m. at Petersville Baptist Church, 3330 Petersville Church Road, New Canton. There will be different speakers and choirs each night. Everyone welcome.

AUGUST 4-8

HOMECOMING/ REVIVAL, Eleven Oaks Baptist Church, Crewe. There will be various speakers for the week. Prayer service each night at 7 p.m. with revival services at 7:30 p.m. All are welcome.

AUGUST 4-9

HOMECOMING/REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church, Farmville, with the Rev. James P. Ashton delivering the homecoming message. Revival will begin Wednesday with prayer and worship at 7 p.m. followed by a service at 7:30 p.m. Guest pastors each night.

HOMECOMING/ REVIVAL, 11 a.m. at Calvary Baptist Church. Pastor Brown will render services. Lunch will be served. There will be no evening services. Revival service will be held Monday-Friday with praise and worship at 7 p.m. with the Lords word starting at 7:30 p.m. The Rev. Gary Lee of Scott Zion Baptist Church, Madison Heights, will be the speaker. Various choirs each night. All are welcome to join us for this glorious fellowship.

HOMECOMING/ REVIVAL, 10:45 a.m. at New Bethel Baptist Church, 14167 Farmville Road, Meherrin. Speaker will be the Rev. Haney Thomas, Pastor of New Bethel. Dinner will be served. Revival services will take place Monday thru Friday. Prayer service starts at 7:30 p.m. with preaching at 8 p.m. The revivalist for the week is the Rev. Kevin Northam, Pastor of the Olive Branch Baptist Church, Dinwiddie. All are welcome.

AUGUST 5

TECHNOLOGY CLASS, 3-4:30 p.m. Computer basics at Cumberland Public Library.

SUPPORT GROUP TO MEET, 5:45 p.m. of the Heart of VA Special Needs Group at Farmville Church of Christ, 1401 Milnwood Road, Farmville. This meeting is held the first Monday of each month.

MEETING, 6:30 p.m. of the Curdsville Community Center, 122 School Road, Curdsville. A musical program will be presented by Evelyn Dent. Everyone is welcome. Bring your favorite covered dish or desert.

AUGUST 5-7

REVIVAL, 7 p.m. nightly at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, New Canton, with the Rev. Roger Woody of Chestnut Grove Baptist Church speaking each night. Music will be featured each evening.

AUGUST 5-9

REVIVAL, 7 p.m. nightly at Calvary Baptist Church, 1144 Hendricks Road, Prospect. Pastor Gary Lee of Scott Zion Baptist Church, Madison Heights, will be the guest speaker for the week.

AUGUST 6

YMCA COMMUNITY GARDEN WORK DAY, 8-10 a.m. at the YMCA, Farmville. Share the work, share the harvest. Seeds and tools provided. All ages welcome. Stay as little as you like or as long as you can. For more information call (434) 392-4246.

BEEKEEPERS TO MEET, 7 p.m. at the Prince Edward County Extension. Heather Stertzer, Co-Owner/ Beekeeper of Scottsville Supply Company will speak about what to do this time of year to go into fall, especially with keeping low mite levels. FAMILY DINNER NIGHT, 6:30 p.m. at Fitzgerald Memorial Baptist Church, 14 Fitzgerald Road, Cumberland.

REVIVAL, 7 p.m. nightly at Mt. Moriah Upper Room Baptist Church, 1913 Tuggle Road. There will be various revivalists and choirs each night. All are welcome.

AUGUST 8

TECHNOLOGY CLASS, 3-4:30 p.m. Goodreads and novelist information session at Cumberland Public Library.

AUGUST 9

10TH ANNIVERSARY EVENT, noon of the Prince Edward County Triad at the Firemen’s Arena, 1328 Zion Hill Road, Farmville. There will be door prizes, vendor freebies with lunch provided by Farmville Rehabilitation and Health. Guest speaker will be from the Attorney General’s Office.

SUMMER OUTDOOR FILM SERIES, dusk, at Crute Stage, corner of Main and Fourth Street, Farmville. Bring a blanket or lawn chair. Popcorn, candy and drinks will be for sale. No pets permitted. Rain date will be following evening.

AUGUST 10

WOMEN’S DAY WORKSHOP, 9 a.m.- 1 p.m. hosted by the Women’s Ministry of Tearwallet Baptist Church of Cumberland. Guest facilitator will be Barbara Shepperson. Theme: Proverbs 31 – The Blessing. Brunch will be served.

FREE COMMUNITY DINNER, 5:30 p.m. at Farmville Church of Christ, 1401 Milnwood Road, Farmville. A movie will be shown at 7 p.m. All are welcome. This will be the second Saturday each month.

SUMMER NIGHT STARLIGHT, 8-9:30 p.m. hosted by the Crewe Astronomy Club at Sailor’s Creek visitor center.
