The Farmville Area Chamber of Commerce is planning to host an ice skating park Saturday, Nov. 23, and has received approval from the Farmville Town Council to hold the event in the parking lot behind Green Front Furniture.
Town Council members approved the request during their work session meeting Aug. 7.
During the council’s regular meeting on Aug. 14, then-Town Manager Gerald Spates told members that the event would cost the chamber $10,000.
“This is a brand-new fundraiser for the Chamber of Commerce,” said Chamber Executive Director Joy Stump.
“This will be an artificial ice rink, and it will be a one-day event only.”
Stump also noted that “We got the idea from another chamber and it’s a big success for them and they said it’s super fun.”
According to Stump, the chamber is looking for businesses to sponsor the family-friendly event, and the cost of attending the ice skating park will depend on how many sponsors the chamber receives.
“We love to do family events and hope that this will attract lots of people to our area, and if there is a charge it will be nominal, and that just depends on how many sponsors we get,” she added.
